Reno Omokri Speaks on Being Paid to Support Tinubu Government

Reno Omokri has addressed growing speculation that he is being financially rewarded for his support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday, the socio-political activist firmly denied being on the government’s payroll, insisting his public support stems from patriotism, not payment.

Omokri, a former presidential spokesperson known for his outspoken criticism of opposition figures—particularly Labour Party’s Peter Obi—said his loyalty to the current administration is driven by national interest. “Why would anyone give me money? I’m doing this not just for the love I have for Tinubu but the love I have for Nigeria,” he said.

He challenged claims of financial motivation by citing his long-standing involvement in Nigerian affairs. “So who was paying me between 2015 and 2023 when I was traveling over on matters concerning Nigeria?” he asked, emphasizing that his activism has always been self-funded.

Referring to his recent fact-finding trip to Lagos regarding the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, Omokri said, “I don’t live here. I came to Lagos because people have spread wrong information. I bought a ticket with my own money, then I came and gathered journalists. I also gathered members of the public, ordinary Nigerians. I bought a drone with my own money to verify that indeed the 30 kilometers highway is complete.”
