Python, Other Wild Animals Removed from Former AGF Ahmed Idris’ Home in Kano

Authorities have evacuated a python, a crocodile, and a cub from the home of former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, following reports that one of the animals had escaped and caused panic in parts of Kano. Residents in Daneji, Mandawari, Kabara, and surrounding communities were alarmed after the python reportedly fled the property, prompting swift action from local wildlife officials.

The Managing Director of Kano Zoo, Sadik Kura Muhammad, confirmed during a radio interview on Sunday that the animals have been safely relocated to the zoo. He stated that Ahmed Idris voluntarily surrendered the animals after the incident sparked fear in the area.

Muhammad clarified that the former AGF holds a valid license allowing him to keep certain wild animals at home. He emphasized that the animals had not yet posed any significant threat but acknowledged the concerns raised by the public. Citing the Wild Animal Law, he explained that individuals are legally permitted to keep some wild species, though endangered animals—such as parrots and vultures—must be kept in zoos to aid their conservation, rather than for personal entertainment.
