Public Fury Erupts as Bandit Leader Flaunts Wealth, Offers Financial Aid to Followers on TikTok

A wave of public outrage has erupted following the appearance of a notorious bandit leader, clad in military camouflage, who recently went live on TikTok to offer financial assistance to his followers. The controversial live session, which has since gone viral, saw several viewers openly sharing their bank account details in the comment section.

Clips from the TikTok live stream quickly surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter, sparking widespread anger and calls for immediate action from security agencies. Many users demanded that the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant authorities track down and apprehend the individual responsible.

One Twitter user, Comr. Isah Muhammed (@revi_ofthehills), criticized the inability of security forces to locate the bandit, stating, “Security personnels cannot find him because he’s not holding an ‘end bad governance’ placard.” Another user, @solbabyz, expressed frustration, saying, “The fact these men are able to use smartphones comfortably is crazy. How can the Nigerian government not have the technology to track them even if the phones don’t have SIM cards? It’s crazy how this is possible.”

The incident has raised serious concerns about the capabilities of Nigeria’s security infrastructure, with some users pointing out the irony of the bandit’s access to advanced technology while law enforcement struggles to locate and apprehend him. @Nairaexchanger remarked, “He’s exploiting the banking system and telecommunications, while on social media, the government turns a blind eye.”

Others questioned the military’s use of resources, with @Ezeifeka_Obinna asking, “I don’t know why the military has drones if capturing these people is considered a waste of resources.”

The public outcry also extended to the use of social media by criminals, with suggestions ranging from banning TikTok to more effective tracking of banking details. “Why can’t DSS use the sender’s details from the bank and track them?” asked @ontophilll.

In response to the growing criticism, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, addressed the issue, stating that it is unrealistic to expect all criminals to be apprehended simultaneously. He urged Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of the police and military, emphasizing that arrests are being made regularly.

“We can’t apprehend all the criminals at once. At least, appreciate us for the ones we have arrested. We arrest them daily, in large numbers,” Adejobi stated in a post on X. He also highlighted the need for collective and individual efforts to tackle the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria.
