Prospective Corps Members Stranded at Kano NYSC Orientation Camp
Over 100 prospective corps members mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are currently stranded at the Kusalla NYSC orientation camp in Karaye Local Government Area, Kano State. The stranded individuals are facing significant challenges after being denied entry into the camp due to late arrival.
One of the affected corps members, who requested anonymity, reported that many of those stranded had traveled from distant eastern and southern states. “It’s really disheartening,” the individual said. “After enduring a rigorous journey to get here, we were refused entry. Some of us received our call-up letters very late and had to travel for two or three days to reach Kano.”
Another prospective corps member shared their ordeal, explaining that their vehicle broke down during the journey, leading to a delayed arrival at the camp. “I got to Kano around 1 AM and had to stay in the city overnight. The next day, my phone, which held all my documents, was damaged in an accident, causing further delays. I finally reached the camp around 11 PM, but there was no one to attend to us.”
The corps members claim they were informed that the registration portal had been closed by officials in Abuja, leaving them in a precarious situation. With little money left and uncertainty about their future, some are now desperate for assistance, with several female members reportedly in tears.
Attempts to reach the NYSC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Juliana Nahemiah, for comment were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls or messages.
The stranded corps members are urgently appealing to the relevant authorities to intervene and resolve the situation, as they remain uncertain about what comes next.
