Prophet Arrested Over N3.9m Fraud

The General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry, Ilorin, Kwara State, Prophet Adeniyi Abiodun James, has been apprehended by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The arrest follows allegations of defrauding a member of his congregation, Oluwole Babarinsa, to the tune of N3,980,000 under false pretenses of facilitating his relocation to Canada.

Prophet James was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, based on a petition filed by Babarinsa, who accused the cleric of exploiting him during a church event in 2021. According to the petitioner, Prophet James claimed to have received a divine revelation about Babarinsa’s imminent journey abroad and subsequently engaged him in discussions about his preferred destination, which was Canada.

In their purported agreement, Prophet James allegedly offered to assist Babarinsa in relocating to Canada through a contact in Lagos, demanding payments totaling N3,980,000 for various processing fees, including flight tickets and travel documents.

Despite Babarinsa’s compliance with the financial demands, no progress was made towards his relocation, leading him to demand a refund from the prophet. However, all attempts to retrieve his money proved futile as Prophet James failed to honor the refund request.

The EFCC, upon receiving the petition, launched an investigation into the matter, culminating in the arrest of Prophet Adeniyi Abiodun James. The suspect will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation process.
