Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has etched her name in history as the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom. Today, amidst pomp and ceremony, 24-year-old Princess joined 135 other Officer Cadets at the Sovereign’s Parade in London, marking the culmination of 44 weeks of rigorous training.

Representatives from across the military spectrum, including Général d’armée Pierre SchilI, Chief of the French Army, attended the parade on behalf of His Majesty King Charles. The event not only honored the dedication of the graduating officers but also highlighted the enduring ties between the UK and Nigeria in military cooperation.

Princess Owowoh’s achievement adds a new chapter to the longstanding tradition of Nigerian officers training at RMAS, following in the footsteps of notable alumni like former Nigerian President Yakubu Gowan and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye. Her graduation as the 190th Nigerian officer underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering professional military education.

Before her journey to Sandhurst, Princess Owowoh began her military education at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State. Over five years, she distinguished herself, holding various leadership roles and excelling academically. Notably, she became the first female Company Senior Under Officer at the academy, setting a precedent for future generations of female cadets.

Reflecting on her historic achievement, Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey. She acknowledged the collective effort of her family, mentors, instructors, and supporters, emphasizing her commitment to representing Nigeria with pride and making a positive impact globally.

As Princess Owowoh steps into the next phase of her military career, the United Kingdom congratulates her on this significant milestone and looks forward to continued collaboration with Nigeria in defense and security matters.
