JUST IN: President Tinubu Appoints Olatunji Bello as CEO of FCCPC
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Olatunji Bello as the new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, and noted that the appointment is pending Senate confirmation.
Mr. Bello brings a wealth of experience to the role. A lawyer, administrator, and renowned journalist, he previously served as the Secretary to the Lagos State Government. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, where he also studied Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
In his statement, Ngelale conveyed the President’s expectations for Mr. Bello, emphasizing the importance of his role in protecting and promoting the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers. “The President expects that the new Chief Executive Officer of this important agency will ensure the holistic realization of the Commission’s mandate, ensuring the adoption of measures to guarantee the safety and quality of goods and services,” the statement read.
Mr. Bello’s career began in journalism at Concord Newspapers in 1985, where he rose to positions such as Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord. Additionally, he has served as Commissioner for Environment under various administrations in Lagos State, further highlighting his extensive experience in public service.
