Presidency Confirms Atiku’s Allegation: Tinubu’s Son on Chagoury-Linked Board Since 2018

The Presidency has acknowledged that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, assumed a position on the Board of Directors of CDK in 2018.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar raised concerns in a statement regarding potential conflict of interest in the allocation of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project to Hitech Construction Company. Atiku pointed out the alleged ownership of Hitech by the Chagoury family, given Seyi Tinubu’s affiliation with CDK, a tiles manufacturing company situated in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Responding to these allegations, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s right as an adult to engage in lawful business activities both domestically and internationally. Onanuga clarified that Seyi’s position on the CDK board since 2018 was not due to familial connections, but rather his representation of an investor company in which he holds interests.

Onanuga further stressed that CDK’s ownership and shareholder information are publicly accessible through the Corporate Affairs Commission and CDK’s website. He refuted claims of impropriety, highlighting that the Chairman of CDK is retired General TY Danjuma, with the Chagourys holding minority shares and a single member on the five-person board.

This statement comes amidst heightened scrutiny over potential conflicts of interest within governmental projects, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability in business dealings.
