Power Outage Hits Parts of Abuja, AEDC Gives Reasons

Several areas in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were plunged into darkness on Wednesday as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced a scheduled maintenance exercise.

The blackout, affecting key areas, was attributed to an ongoing project by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the 33kV feeder H31 Apo Transmission Substation. The maintenance, as per AEDC’s statement, was slated to occur between 09:00 am and 5:00 pm on January 10, 2024.

Among the affected areas are prominent locations such as the National Hospital, American Embassy, British Embassy, Area 1, 2, 3, and 7, Apo District, Legislative Quarters, Durumi 1, 2 & 3, Old Federal Secretariat, Kaura District, Catholic Secretariat, Amina Court, Gaduwa District, Gudu District, Apo Dutse, Efab Estates, Cedar Crest Hospital, Gudu market, Plazas in Gudu, Ebeano Supermarket, P&P Estate, Gaduwa Estate, Adisa Estate, and surrounding neighborhoods.

AEDC emphasized in its announcement that the power outage was a planned measure, clarifying, “The Management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc. (AEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers in Abuja that there will be a planned power outage on the 33kV feeder H31 Apo Transmission Substation today, Wednesday, 10th January 2024, between 09:00 am and 5:00 pm due to an ongoing JICA project work on the towers.” Residents are advised to make necessary arrangements during this temporary disruption.
