Popular Nigerian Gospel Singer Dies After Battling Leg Condition
Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnanu, renowned for her hit song Omije Ojumi, has died. The news was confirmed Tuesday evening by a source close to her family. No official statement has been released, though further details are expected.
Akinnanu had spent recent months publicly seeking prayers while battling a serious leg condition. In late 2025, a video from a service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan showed her seated with her leg extended as prayers were offered for her recovery. The footage, highlighting persistent bleeding in her leg, drew national attention and prompted widespread messages of support and prayer vigils from fans. The specific nature of her illness was never formally disclosed.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her music career at age 10 and later left banking to focus on gospel music. She rose to prominence with Omije Ojumi and went on to release several tracks that cemented her status as a respected voice in Nigeria’s gospel music scene.
