“Pompeo, Haley Won’t Be in My Government” — Trump Announces
In a recent announcement on Truth Social, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump revealed that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley will not be part of his upcoming administration. Trump’s statement praised both officials for their past service but made clear that they would not hold cabinet positions in his government.
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our country,” Trump shared on his social media platform.
This announcement follows a series of meetings with Trump’s transition team, which is currently finalizing appointments for key positions. So far, neither Pompeo nor Haley has responded to Trump’s decision.
While both Pompeo and Haley have played prominent roles in past Republican administrations, recent years have seen their relationships with Trump grow more complex. Both officials have taken stances that diverge from Trump’s own, particularly regarding U.S. support for Ukraine—a policy they both publicly supported, even as Trump continues to advocate for a more restrained American involvement.
The President-elect’s decision also follows past criticisms both officials have directed toward Trump. Pompeo publicly questioned Trump’s handling of classified materials following the FBI’s 2022 search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, stressing the need for strict adherence to protocols on classified information. Haley, who served as Trump’s final significant rival in the Republican primaries, has also been vocal in her critique, particularly over Trump’s campaign style. In a recent statement, she suggested that his approach could be alienating to women and minority voters, remarking on what she called “controversial and divisive” rhetoric.
The exclusion of Pompeo and Haley aligns with Trump’s appointment of Susie Wiles as his incoming Chief of Staff, a move that signals his intention to build a cabinet more closely aligned with his current political vision.
