Political Tensions Rise in Rivers State as Pro-Fubara, Pro-Wike Assembly Hold Separate Sittings Today

Today, Rivers State is embroiled in heightened political turmoil as two factions of the State House of Assembly have convened separate sittings, exacerbating the ongoing feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.

On one side, lawmakers aligned with Governor Fubara, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, are set to screen and confirm Emmanuel Frank-Fubara as a new commissioner-nominee. This move follows an invitation extended by the Clerk, Dr. G. M Gillis-West, on behalf of the pro-Fubara faction.

Meanwhile, the opposing faction, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule and loyal to Nyesom Wike, will hold their own plenary session at the official State Assembly quarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

This marks the first gathering of the pro-Wike group since a recent Court of Appeal ruling validated their status as legitimate members of the Assembly. SK Blog reported on the court decision, which upheld the legitimacy of lawmakers aligned with Nyesom Wike.
