Police Storm Awka Hideout, Arrest Suspected Armed Robber Linked to Separatist Group
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of armed robbery and alleged membership of a separatist group, recovering a stolen vehicle in the process.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect, identified as Charles Chinonso, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu.
The arrest took place in Umuazu Village, Nise, in Awka South Local Government Area, following a complaint lodged by the vehicle’s owner in Imo State. The victim had reported that the car was snatched at the World Bank Housing Area, Owerri West Local Government Area.
“Acting on credible technological intelligence, operatives tracked the vehicle to its location in Awka South, where the suspect was apprehended,” Ikenga said.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the Command would liaise with the Imo State Police Command, as the robbery occurred in their jurisdiction, to ensure the suspect and the recovered vehicle are processed according to legal procedures.
Police authorities urged members of the public to continue providing timely information that could assist in tracking criminal activities in the state.
