Police Reveal Identities of Couple Killed After Touts’ Attack in Abuja
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has identified the victims of Wednesday’s fatal accident in Abuja as Mr. Emeka Ehekweme and his wife, who died after being chased and attacked by touts along Nnamdi Azikiwe Way, Mabushi.
According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, the tragic incident occurred after the couple’s vehicle, a grey Toyota Highlander with registration number ABJ 206 EC, was accosted by three unidentified men near Berger Junction, Utako.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said in a statement that the suspects forcefully entered the vehicle, sparking a struggle for control of the steering. The Highlander veered off course, collided with a parked Mazda, and somersaulted before crashing into a bridge pillar.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the couple, along with their young son, died on the spot. The chaos that followed led to the death of two of the touts, locally referred to as Agberos, after an angry mob descended on them.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend all those involved.
