Police Rescue 2-Year-Old Child and 11 Market Women Abducted in Kwara
A coordinated effort by security forces in Kwara State led to the successful rescue of twelve individuals, including a two-year-old child, from kidnappers on Monday.
According to reports, the eleven market women had been returning from Oke-Ode market in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State last Wednesday when they were ambushed and abducted at Oyi bridge in Yaaru/Olayinka village. The incident occurred along the Ajase-ipo/Oke-Ode road between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The abducted traders were reportedly from Offa and Yaaru in Kwara State and Ikirun in Osun State.
Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the rescue operation to journalists in Ilorin. “Eleven market women and a two-year-old child were rescued by the security team, which combed the forest in search of the kidnapped victims. All the victims have been rescued and released to their families,” Toun stated. She also noted that some of the injured were treated at the General Hospital in Share, Ifelodun council, and have since been discharged.
Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, Coordinator of Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch, praised the joint security team for their efforts. “The gallantry and steadfastness of hunters/vigilantes in the successful rescue of all abductees in last Wednesday’s kidnapping along Ajassepo/Okeode Road by Oyi bridge between Yaru-Olayinka in Ifelodun council of the state is commendable,” he said.
