Police React to Bomb Explosion Scare in Jos
The Plateau State Police Command has addressed a bomb scare that caused significant alarm among residents in Jos on Tuesday. Police assured the public that the situation is under control after three suspected explosive devices were reportedly found near the Abuja Market in the busy Terminus area.
Initial reports suggested an explosion; however, the police clarified that they safely neutralized the devices, preventing any casualties or property damage.
According to a police statement, an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team from the Plateau State Command responded quickly to a distress call regarding suspected explosive devices at Murtala Mohammed Way near the old JUTH fence. Officers successfully neutralized one device that appeared set to detonate, while two others were safely removed from the area.
Witnesses reported that the police’s prompt action likely prevented a disaster in this densely populated area, and while the initial response raised concerns, officers effectively managed the situation, restoring calm.
Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo confirmed that the scare originated from a shallow hole suspected to contain an improvised explosive device (IED). Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina promptly deployed bomb technicians from the EOD unit, along with local police, to secure the area and investigate the site. After careful inspection, the EOD team declared the area safe, confirming no explosive threat.
Commissioner Adesina and senior police officials also visited the scene to provide additional assurance to residents. The police urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring safety across Plateau State.
