Police Launch Manhunt for Fleeing Nurse Involved in Failed Abortion Case
Authorities in Oke-Owa, located in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State, are currently in pursuit of an unnamed nurse who is accused of performing an abortion that resulted in severe complications for the patient, Deborah Sokoya.
According to a police source, Sokoya underwent the procedure, which allegedly took place at the behest of her elder sister, Mutiat Sokoya, after being deceived into visiting Mutiat’s residence in the Iperin area of Ijebu-Ode.
Following the failed abortion, Sokoya experienced uncontrollable bleeding, prompting her hospitalization for urgent medical attention.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the victim’s boyfriend, Peter Balogun, had reported the incident to authorities, revealing that he had previously financed another abortion for Sokoya in September 2023.
Both Mutiat and Balogun are currently in police custody for questioning regarding their involvement in the matter.
Odutola stated, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing nurse and others who participated in the abortion.”
