Police Foil Kidnap Attempt During Delta State Polytechnic Graduation Ceremony

Police in Delta State has successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping targeting guests at the Delta State Polytechnic’s graduation ceremony in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, disclosed the incident in a statement released yesterday.

According to Mr. Edafe, on August 13, 2024, as the graduation ceremony was underway, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oghara Division, Olasunkanmi Musiliu, received credible intelligence about a plot by suspected kidnappers to abduct attendees. Acting promptly on this information, the DPO mobilized a team of operatives and led a raid on the suspects’ hideout, located in a bush along Otefe/Ovade Legit Road.

The suspected kidnappers, upon noticing the approaching police, fled the scene, leaving behind an assortment of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, an English pump-action gun, and a locally made cut-to-size gun. Although the suspects managed to escape with gunshot wounds, a manhunt is currently underway to apprehend them.

This successful intervention by the police prevented what could have been a tragic incident during the celebratory event.
