Police Extradite ‘Killaboi’ from Qatar Over Alleged Murder of 21-Year-Old Nigerian Student
Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, popularly known as “Killaboi,” has been extradited from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria over the alleged murder of his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe. The Nigeria Police Force confirmed his return in a statement issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, detailing a months-long international manhunt and coordinated efforts involving the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, Qatari authorities, and other relevant agencies.
Nnayereugo is accused of killing Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023. He fled the country shortly after the incident and later released a video online allegedly confessing to the crime—an act police described as a calculated attempt to mislead the investigation.
Following a petition from the victim’s family submitted on September 29, 2024, INTERPOL NCB Abuja took over the case. A Red Notice was issued after the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department declared him wanted on October 13, 2023. Nnayereugo was first apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on October 20, 2023, under a false identity but escaped during a prison break on November 26, 2023.
Further intelligence tracked his movements across West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, where he continued to use forged identities. He eventually arrived in Doha on January 24, 2025, using a fraudulent Guinean passport under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye.” He was arrested in February 2025 after biometric confirmation of his identity by INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Doha.
An official extradition request was processed by the Federal Ministry of Justice and approved by Qatari judicial authorities, leading to his return to Nigeria in the early hours of April 19, 2025.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the international cooperation that led to Nnayereugo’s capture and commended the agencies involved, including the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the suspect is prosecuted and that justice is served.
