Police dismiss officer for searching commuter’s phone

The Inspector General of Police has approved the dismissal of Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri with Force No 509745 attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command from the Nigeria Police Force, for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public.

You would recall that in a video that went viral recently, a young man was heard after being stopped for routine search in the video, saying it is illegal to search his mobile phone.

The video captured the man saying the Police officer was violating the directives of the IGP, while the officer was also seen assaulting the man by the roadside.

A statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called on officers and men of the Force to maintain professionalism and civility to members of the public in the discharge of their duties in line with extant laws. The Force equally called on members of the public to ensure proper conduct in all encounters with police officers to avoid infractions that may be subject to prosecution.

The Officer’s dismissal takes effect from 12th August, 2022.
