Police Detain Landlord, Associate Over Tenant’s Death in Rent Dispute
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a landlord and his associate in connection with the death of a tenant during a rent dispute in Oriyangi, Ibadan.
According to a statement released by the command on Sunday, the incident occurred on September 3, 2025, when the tenant, identified as OlaYeni, engaged in a heated altercation with his landlord. The dispute allegedly escalated when the landlord’s associate struck OlaYeni, causing him to collapse.
Emergency responders were said to have arrived promptly, but the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the statement, titled “Landlord voluntarily becomes tenant at Abolongo following violent incident,”q the police noted that both the landlord and his associate have been remanded at Abolongo prison pending further investigation.
The command extended its condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that justice would be pursued.
