Police Contradict Themselves Amid Nigerian Archbishop Kidnapping Saga

Police authorities in Abia State and Anambra State have found themselves at odds over the reported kidnapping of a Nigerian archbishop and his family members in the South-east region.

The abduction took place on Wednesday when gunmen reportedly seized Archbishop Uka Osim of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, along with his wife, Anne, and son, Roland. Adding to the chaos, three other clerics—Azuka Ochu, Moses Okafor, and Anderson Akwazie—were also caught in the abduction frenzy while traveling from Abia State to Awka, Anambra State, for religious duties.

Initially, Denis Onuoha, the church administrator in Abia State, confirmed the kidnapping. However, the Anambra State Police, led by spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, claimed they found “no record” of such an incident, urging the public to provide information to aid their investigation.

But hold on to your hats; the rollercoaster doesn’t end there. Abia State Police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka later chimed in, confirming the kidnapping did occur—just not in Abia State. She explained that Bishop Dennis Onuoha clarified the incident took place in Awka, Anambra State, not in their jurisdiction.

In a satirical twist of fate, it seems the police are in a race to outdo themselves in the realm of contradictions. While they’re busy playing catch-up, let’s hope the real authorities are making headway in securing the safety of the abducted individuals.

As the drama unfolds, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State has wisely reminded reporters and bloggers to fact-check before hitting the publish button. Because in the whirlwind of conflicting statements, it’s hard to tell who’s really got a grip on reality.
