Police Arrest Suspected Human Trafficker, Rescue Three Children in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman for allegedly kidnapping and trafficking children. According to a statement by Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, the arrest was carried out on November 20, 2024, by officers from the force’s Quick Intervention Unit in Owerri, the state capital.

During the operation, three children reportedly abducted in Anambra State were rescued and safely reunited with their families.

The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to being part of a child trafficking syndicate operating out of Onitsha. She disclosed that the group targets children from unsuspecting parents in both Anambra and Imo states. Okoye added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate still at large. The suspect will face legal proceedings once the investigation is concluded.

The police command reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and related crimes while urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “Together, we can protect our children and ensure a safer community for all,” the statement emphasized.
