Plateau Massacre: Protest Turns Violent as Women Burn Down Bokkos Traditional Ruler’s Residence
Women engaged in a protest in Plateau State took matters into their own hands, setting ablaze the residence of Michal Monday Adanchi, the District Head of Bokkos town. The incident unfolded at approximately 12:30 a.m., capturing widespread attention.
According to eyewitness accounts, the women were driven to take such extreme measures due to the arrest of certain community members allegedly involved in the recent spate of killings in the Bokkos Local Government Area.
“The incident began at the police station, where they expressed their anger over the arrest of some members of the community. After leaving the police station, they proceeded to the house of the traditional ruler, protesting that he was a sellout. A few minutes after reaching the house, they set it ablaze,” reported an eyewitness.
Soldiers swiftly intervened, dispersing the protesting women to restore order in the area. The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, has not yet issued a statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, the state police command confirmed the arrest of eight individuals linked to the recent attacks in Bokkos and Barikin Ladi LGAs. This development comes in the aftermath of the Christmas Eve attacks, during which about 23 villages were targeted, resulting in the tragic loss of over 150 lives and the destruction of hundreds of homes. The situation remains tense as authorities work to address the complex aftermath of the unrest.
