Plane Crash Near Chino Airport Kills Two

A routine Saturday turned tragic when a historic World War II-era plane crashed near Chino Airport, claiming the lives of two individuals onboard. The incident, which occurred around 12:35 p.m., saw emergency crews rush to the scene where the Lockheed L12 aircraft had gone down just moments after takeoff.

Authorities from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board have launched an investigation into the crash, which happened in the vicinity of Chino, a city located about 55 kilometers east of Downtown Los Angeles in San Bernardino County.

Initial reports from local sources, including the KABC television station, indicated that the twin-engine plane came to rest approximately 200 yards off the runway, engulfed in flames upon impact. Firefighters from the Chino Valley Fire District responded swiftly but were unable to save the occupants of the aircraft.

Details regarding the identities of the victims have not been disclosed pending notification of their families. The passengers were reportedly participating in a Father’s Day event hosted by the Yanks Air Museum prior to the tragic incident.

“At this early stage, it’s premature to speculate on the cause of the crash,” stated Bryan Turner, battalion chief with the Chino Valley Fire District, emphasizing that investigations by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are underway.
