Photos: Reverend Sister Defends Wearing Trousers in Viral Birthday Photos, Says Outfit Is Medical Scrubs

A reverend sister who drew widespread attention after appearing in trousers in her birthday photos has issued a detailed response, saying the outfit was simply part of her professional medical attire.

The photos of Rev. Sr. Gina King spread quickly online as many social media users questioned why a consecrated sister would wear trousers, a choice often viewed as unconventional within religious circles. After days of debate, she took to Facebook to clarify her position and explain the context behind the images.

“Dear friends, I would like to address something that many people observed and commented on regarding my birthday picture, especially about me wearing trousers,” she wrote, adding that the outfit was not casual clothing but standard hospital wear. “The outfit I wore is called a medical scrub, and it is the standard uniform required for healthcare practitioners.”

She emphasized that her religious commitment does not prevent her from fulfilling her responsibilities in the medical field. “As a consecrated person, my consecration does not stop me from carrying out my duties as a healthcare worker. Wearing a scrub is not fashion. It is part of my professional attire for hygiene, safety, and proper medical service,” she explained. According to her, medical staff are required to dress in a way that allows “free movement, proper coverage, comfort, and safety” while attending to patients.

Rev. Sr. King also highlighted that sisters serve in different missions and her current calling involves healthcare. “As Sisters, we serve God in different capacities: some through teaching, some through administration, some through charity work, and some through healthcare services. My calling at this moment is through healthcare, and my uniform helps me fulfil that responsibility responsibly.”

She further noted that her institute expects its members to dress modestly according to their roles. “In any case, as a Secular—the institute I belong—I am expected to dress modestly and responsibly, just like any sane human would do.”

Concluding her message, she urged the public to shift their attention from clothing to service. “So please, let us focus on the heart of service rather than the external attire. God bless you all for your understanding,” she wrote.
