Photos: Meet Lt. A. M. Yerima — The Naval Officer Who Stood His Ground Before Wike
By Arthur Maduka
Lieutenant A. M. Yerima has quickly become one of the most talked-about figures in Nigeria — not because of politics or celebrity, but because of his calm, disciplined presence during a moment that captured the nation’s attention.
A junior officer in the Nigerian Navy, Lt. Yerima found himself face-to-face with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike during a tense encounter in Abuja. Yet beyond that viral scene lies the story of a young officer whose composure, confidence, and sense of duty have earned him both respect and admiration across the country.
Though official details about his background remain limited, Yerima is said to have roots in northern Nigeria and has served with distinction within naval operations connected to the Federal Capital Territory. Colleagues describe him as firm but respectful, known for following procedure and standing by his responsibilities without fear or favoritism.
Since the confrontation, Nigerians have taken to social media to praise his professionalism — seeing in him the reflection of a disciplined military generation that values principle over pressure. His measured tone and refusal to be rattled by authority have made him something of an unlikely national figure.
Whether one views him as a symbol of courage or simply as an officer doing his job, Lt. A. M. Yerima has become a name that represents quiet strength in the face of power — a reminder that true service, in or out of uniform, begins with integrity.
