Photos: Anambra State Govt Seals Prophet Onye Eze Jesus’ Church Over Oke Ite Practice
The Anambra State Government has sealed the ministry of Pastor Onyebuchi Okocha in Amafor village, Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, over alleged involvement in the controversial Oke Ite practice.
Oke Ite is a concoction reportedly made from human parts, animals, and herbs mixed in a mud pot and used for money rituals. Authorities in Anambra have identified it as a fraudulent scheme used by native doctors to deceive unsuspecting victims. The state government has launched a crackdown on individuals engaged in such activities.
Ken Emeakai, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, announced the closure of the ministry while leading members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi to the site. He stated that the action was taken in response to public complaints and a video where Pastor Okocha allegedly admitted to practicing Oke Ite and other dubious rituals.
Emeakai revealed that the government will conduct forensic tests on liquid substances found at the ministry. He emphasized that while the government does not oppose any religious practice, it will not tolerate those that promote a get-rich-quick mentality.
Additionally, forensic experts will analyze samples from River Bethsaida, where Pastor Okocha, also known as “Aka na Asa Uchu,” is said to conduct ritual baths for individuals. The investigation aims to determine any potential health hazards associated with the practice. The Anambra State Government remains committed to curbing fraudulent religious and ritualistic practices in thestate.
