Peter Obi Donates Millions to Islamic, Health Institutions in Kaduna Amid 2027 Campaign Push

As momentum builds ahead of the 2027 presidential election, former Anambra State governor and opposition leader Peter Obi is stepping up his outreach across northern Nigeria with high-profile visits and multimillion-naira donations to religious and educational institutions in Kaduna.

Mr Obi, who has declared his intention to run again for president, visited four institutions in Kaduna on Wednesday, offering support to initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and human capital development. His visit, part of a broader effort to consolidate national appeal, comes as opposition parties continue to explore a coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Among the stops on his tour was the Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute, founded by Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachukwu, where Obi provided financial backing for ongoing development. He also visited the Madarasatul Hidayyatul Auladi Muslimima Almajiri School in Kawo, a place he noted he had visited about five times previously.

“I gave an additional donation of ₦5 million, as I have always insisted that no child deserves to be left behind when it comes to education,” said Obi. “No matter their location, we can take education to them, as this is the key index of pulling our people out of poverty.”

Continuing his itinerary, Obi proceeded to Womenhood College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaduna, where he donated ₦5 million, acknowledging the school’s role in training and empowering women in health-related professions, particularly within rural communities.

He also visited St. Gerald’s College of Nursing Sciences, where he contributed ₦10 million to support the training of what he described as “competent and compassionate nurses.” Addressing students, Obi emphasized the long-term impact of investing in human development, saying, “When we invest in education and healthcare, we’re not just building schools or hospitals, we are building the future of a secure, productive, and united Nigeria.”

His Kaduna trip follows a visit to Mokwa LGA in Niger State last month, where he donated ₦20 million to flood victims, continuing a pattern of high-profile engagements as he lays the groundwork for another run at the presidency.
