Peace Deal: Trump Issues 50-Day Ultimatum to Putin, Threatens 100% Tariffs Over Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring that the United States will impose 100 percent tariffs on Russia if a peace deal over Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.

Speaking from the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump expressed deep frustration with Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine and criticized Putin directly. “We are very, very unhappy with \[Russia], and we’re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don’t have a deal in 50 days, tariffs at about 100 percent,” he said. “I’m disappointed in President Putin. I thought we would’ve had a deal two months ago.”

Trump also announced a new arrangement with NATO allies to deliver advanced military support to Ukraine. Among the hardware being prepared for shipment are at least 17 Patriot missile systems, which Trump emphasized are urgently needed on the front lines. “We will send them Patriots, which they desperately need, because Putin really surprised a lot of people. He talks nice and then bombs everybody in the evening,” Trump said.

He made clear that the U.S. will not shoulder the financial burden for the military support. “We’ve made a deal today where we are going to be sending \[Ukraine] weapons and \[Europe] is going to be paying for them. We — the United States — will not be having any payment made. We’re not buying it, but we will manufacture it, and they’re going to be paying for it.”

Highlighting the capabilities of American defense manufacturing, Trump added, “We make the best equipment, the best missiles, and the European nations know that. We’re going to be sending the best to NATO.”

There are also indications that offensive weapons may be included in the package, as Trump distances his administration from what he sees as missteps under President Biden’s handling of arms support since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
