PDP Ward Chairman, Accomplices Apprehended for Gun-running in Zamfara
Aminu Ibrahim, purportedly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Birnin Yero Ward, Shinkafi local government area of Zamfara State, found himself in custody alongside Musa Usman Seun and Isah Mohammed, identified as his partners in crime. The arrests were made on Monday by troops from the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin, acting on credible intelligence regarding their illicit activities.
According to PRNigeria, the trio was apprehended based on an intelligence report, with Ibrahim, Seun, and Mohammed now facing further interrogation. The operation resulted in the recovery of substantial sums of money, reportedly earmarked for the acquisition of assorted weapons at the Illela border in Sokoto State.
A military source explained, “The troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN, acting on credible intelligence on activities of a notorious gunrunner with intentions to smuggle arms into Zamfara state, immediately set up a roadblock and apprehended 3 suspected persons.”
The recovered items from the suspects include Two Million Five Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira, 1 Volkswagen Wagon, 3 mobile phones, and various other belongings. Preliminary investigations suggest that the seized money was intended for the exchange of assorted weapons at the Illela border in Sokoto State.
As the suspects undergo further interrogation, this arrest underscores the ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms trade and enhance security in the state.
