Paystack Suspends CTO Ezra Olubi Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations and Resurfaced Tweets
Paystack has suspended its co-founder and chief technology officer, Ezra Olubi, following an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a subordinate. The Stripe-owned fintech confirmed it has initiated a formal investigation into the claim.
The controversy intensified when a series of Olubi’s tweets from 2009 to 2013 resurfaced, drawing widespread attention online for their sexually explicit content and troubling references involving minors. The posts included graphic remarks about colleagues, including one about wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs, as well as a 2011 tweet suggesting inappropriate physical contact with a colleague. The resurfacing of these decade-old tweets has fueled public outrage and scrutiny over Olubi’s past behavior.
In a statement to TechCabal, Paystack said it takes allegations of this nature very seriously. “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company said. “Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.” The company added that it would not provide further details until the inquiry is concluded, citing the need to respect the parties involved and maintain the integrity of the process.
Following the viral circulation of the tweets, Olubi has deactivated his X account, as discussions and criticism continue across social media platforms. The incident has sparked renewed conversation about workplace conduct, accountability, and the lasting impact of online behavior, even from years prior.
Paystack has not indicated a timeline for the investigation, and the company’s statement stresses that it is focused on handling the matter responsibly while upholding professional and ethical standards.
