Pastor Adeboye’s Son, Adeolu, Seeks Court Injunction to Block EFCC, Kaduna Authorities from Arresting Him Over Abandoned N8 Billion Project

Adeolu Adeboye, the son of Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has sought a court injunction to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Kaduna State authorities from investigating and arresting him over a controversial infrastructure project.

The project in question involves the construction of an 8km road from Wusasa to Danmagaji Nagoyi in Zaria, Kaduna State. Adeolu Adeboye, through his company Ronchess Global Resources Plc, was awarded the contract valued initially at N8.74 billion, with the sum later revised to N17.26 billion. Despite receiving over N8 billion from the Kaduna State Government under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration, only 30% of the project was completed before work ceased.

Following the abandonment, the Kaduna State Government and the Kaduna State House of Assembly launched an investigation into the alleged mismanagement and diversion of funds. The EFCC has also been involved, alleging evidence of fraud and financial misconduct.

In response to these developments, Adeolu Adeboye filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking an injunction to restrain the EFCC, Kaduna State Government, and the Kaduna State House of Assembly from further actions against him. The suit, numbered FHC/L/CS/1206/24, requests protection from arrest and detention, claiming that the ongoing probe and related actions infringe upon his rights.

The court has granted an interim order in favor of Adeolu Adeboye, temporarily halting any investigative or arrest actions by the EFCC and Kaduna authorities. The case is scheduled for further hearing on September 20, 2024.

The EFCC’s counter-affidavit, sworn by staff member Mohammed Arabo, highlights evidence of fraud and the incomplete status of the project. According to the EFCC, Adeolu Adeboye’s company received over N8 billion but failed to deliver the contracted work.

The legal teams for the EFCC include Femi Falana (SAN) and his colleagues, while Adeolu Adeboye is represented by Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) and other attorneys.
