Panic at Church Convention as Security Hunter’s Gun Discharges, Injuring Eight
A church convention in Adamawa State turned chaotic when a hunter’s gun accidentally discharged, injuring at least eight people. The incident occurred during the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) national convention in Demsa Local Government Area.
The hunter, identified as a member of the Hunters Association from Kukta Village in Song LGA, was providing security at the event on Tuesday when his dane gun fell and discharged multiple shots. The injured victims were immediately rushed to a medical facility in Demsa, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed the incident and stated that the hunter has been arrested. His identity remains undisclosed as investigations are ongoing.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, condemned the incident and issued a warning to hunters, vigilantes, and other local security groups against carrying arms—especially dane guns—at public gatherings. He urged residents of Demsa LGA to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
