Corruption: Minister Bans Cash Payments in Post Offices

The recently announced registration fees for courier service operators in the country by the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST), has been met with outrage by Nigerians who took to Twitter to express their frustrations at what they described as an attempt by the President Muhammadu Buhari led the federal government to destroy small businesses.

See some of the reactions

This wasn't well thought out, I must say. It would only aggravate the struggles of many young Nigerians. How do we encourage them to be involved in economic building if we initiate policies that would hamper their businesses. The FG and @NipostNgn need to reconsider. pic.twitter.com/hM2EJt9NaR

At a time when govts all around the world (including Nigerian state govts) are reducing taxes, granting tax holidays and helping out small businesses, the Federal Govt wants to enforce Stamp Duty and NIPOST Courier Licence fees? I don’t get it.

Dear VP @ProfOsinbajo, this fee proposed by @NipostNgn would definitely kill small businesses who rely on logistics for their goods delivery and I'm sure it doesn't represent your vision for the ease of doing business in Nigeria. Please help! #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/cffVw3vYIu

NIPOST has the audacity to ask for business plans as regulatory documents. Lmaoooooo. So that they will use everything for their own business. How can people be so wicked.

When it’s not that they’re giving loans. #SayNoToNipostFee

Nigeria has a very high rate of Unemployment and with this Nipost fee, The numbers would double. This is actually very sad, the citizens need to be considered before creating such policies. #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/8l6LVRmWvZ

How much does the average logistics business make per month with a bike or two? Yet you're requesting them to pay one million naira for a license!

How much does the online vendor make per day?

You'll stifle many businesses struggling to survive#SayNoToNipostFee

The same country that grants big businesses tax waivers, is here to kill courier and logistics firms, which are mostly new and owned by youths. For a country with unbelievably high unemployment rate, this is both insensitive and unwise. Nigerians deserve better. #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/l66faIf8br

Mr CEO, how did he arrive at these figures? Some of these companies don't make this much in an entire year. Union levy, agbero levy, LG levy, Lagos state levy, Nipost levy..
Bombard the lines and email till this rubbish is cancelled..50 mails / 50 calls per day#SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/6dsEZl2r6J

Good morning

Let’s all not forget that the biggest enemy to every single Nigerian business out there is the GOVERNMENT

This same government that provides absolutely nothing for its citizens and these same citizens try to do businesses to survive and feed#SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/GU48caX2NW

Young lazy Nigerians gathered their savings, borrowed money from family and friends to start logistics business but the government once again wants to frustrate them💔

The price of bad leadership is very expensive. Nigerians need to collectively #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/FTFfY4PmoI

Imagine buying a delivery bike for N350,000 and paying N1,000,000 to get an operating license.. If this is not madness, I don’t know again.. Very soon they will charge us for living and breathing Nigerian air.. #NOTONIPOSTFEE #SayNoToNipostFee

NIPOST should not be allowed to charge these ridiculous fees, @femigbaja. Thousands of young Nigerians have lost jobs in the last few months. Some turned to courier services. A friend who lost his job bought these from Oride. Please don’t let him commit suicide. #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/p9j3Jz5BVl

I didn’t quit my 8-6 to become a full time entrepreneur and a hustler for Nipost to frustrate my business.
A graduate of mass communication but now a full time entrepreneur.
I won’t be forced to the street or beg to feed. #SayNoToNipostFee pic.twitter.com/ndx5qkRiNy

Don't think you're mot affected. You are. We all are. As long as logistic services have to cough up this fee, your delivery prices will increase. Some may even be higher than the item you're buying. #SayNoToNipostFee
