Outrage Over Pastor’s Post Seeking Paid Wife for Adopted Autistic Son Who Can’t Control His Sexual Urge
A Nigerian pastor, Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), has come under heavy criticism after posting a message seeking a woman to marry his adopted autistic son in exchange for financial and material support.
In a now-viral statement shared online, Chinyere said the arrangement was intended to help manage what he described as the young man’s developing sexual behaviour, which he claimed had become difficult to handle in a home shared with other vulnerable children.
According to the post, the proposed arrangement included full payment of marital rites, lifetime accommodation, a monthly salary, overseas vacations, medical care, and the construction of a house for the couple. He also stated that the woman could be single, a grandmother, or any adult female, but must not be autistic.
The post quickly triggered widespread condemnation across social media, with critics arguing that it reduces a vulnerable person to a transaction and raises serious ethical concerns about consent, disability, and exploitation. Many users also said women should not be treated as tools for managing behavioural or medical conditions.
Following the backlash, the pastor issued an apology on Facebook, saying he did not intend to offend and claiming that relationships between autistic men and non-autistic women exist. He also defended his actions by referencing his work caring for over 500 abandoned children under his foundation.
He further explained that the situation involving the adopted son had left him conflicted, suggesting he was considering options for long-term care and management of the young man’s behaviour, while insisting he was motivated by compassion.
However, the clarification sparked even more criticism online, with many users describing his remarks as inappropriate and insensitive, and arguing that disability care should not be approached through marriage arrangements.
The controversy continues to generate debate on social media around disability rights, consent, and the responsibilities of caregivers in institutional and faith-based settings.
