Outrage as Pastor Forces Woman to Apologize to Church for Pregnancy Outside Wedlock

A viral video of Pastor Terry Jackson from True Vine Apostolic Church of Christ in Hampton, Virginia, has sparked widespread outrage after he compelled a young woman to publicly apologize to the congregation for becoming pregnant outside of marriage. The incident, captured on video and widely shared online, has ignited debates over public shaming, church discipline, and compassion.

The footage shows the woman, visibly emotional, standing before the congregation as the pastor instructed her to apologize. Tearfully addressing the church, she said, “I want to apologize to everybody in here because I am pregnant. I’m sorry, y’all. I just hope that y’all forgive me. Keep on praying for me.”

Pastor Jackson responded with strong condemnation, calling the situation “out of order” and stating the church would not celebrate her pregnancy with events such as a baby shower. He emphasized, “If you sin, you don’t wait later to repent. We don’t condone sin. Ain’t no baby showers. That’s what you lose when you have a baby out of wedlock, ain’t nobody in this church bout to attend one.” He added, “Thank God that God didn’t take you out of here.”

The video has drawn mixed reactions on social media. Many criticized the pastor for what they saw as public humiliation, while others supported his stance as a form of necessary discipline.

Journalist Jemele Hill took to Instagram to denounce the pastor, stating, “The only person who should be ashamed in this scenario is the pastor. I hope she finds a new church home.” Social media user @VanillaDeedle on X commented, “Why does she have to apologize for her sin in front of everyone in the church? All those people sitting in those pews should be up there confessing theirs also.”

Others defended the pastor. @bythebookjulie tweeted, “The Pastor of True Vine is a hundred per cent correct. Sometimes it takes shaming bad choices that will affect the lives of everyone else and her future generations!”

Calls for grace and compassion also emerged. One commenter, @spottedlamb777, wrote, “She confessed her sin, baby is coming, it’s time to support that girl and her child.” Another, @do5925, said, “Show grace, with the caveat, we all have missed the mark of godliness in our lives. Love restores.”

True Vine Apostolic Church describes its mission as following God’s guidance to teach the gospel and bring new souls to Christ.
