Osun Speaker, Lawmakers Storm PDP Primary Venue, Clash with INEC Officials, Warn Gov. Makinde

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, along with several lawmakers and aides, stormed the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary on Tuesday, confronting officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party members.

Egbedun, accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi, arrived at Adolak Event Centre shortly after the primary winner was announced to protest the exercise. Footage shared on social media shows Egbedun pointing at INEC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Olurode, while one of his aides allegedly attacked the official. Oyewusi intervened, ordering the aides to stop the altercation.

The Speaker entered the hall, declaring angrily that those at the venue had no authority to conduct a PDP primary in Osun State. Addressing reporters, Egbedun criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, warning him against using Osun State as a springboard for his presidential ambition.

“I am the Speaker of Osun, a leader in my state and in the PDP. We received calls that some people had come from Oyo State just to hold what we call a drama vote,” Egbedun said. He added that as a bona fide PDP member, it was unacceptable to see outsiders conducting party activities in Osun. He urged Makinde to seek other avenues for his 2027 ambitions, emphasizing that Osun PDP members, including 25 House of Assembly members and several federal lawmakers, remain loyal to the party.
