Ooni of Ife Urges Patience with Tinubu Administration Amid Hardship, Begins Seven-Day Seclusion to Commune with Spirits

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged Nigerians to remain patient during these challenging times, particularly with the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The monarch made this appeal as he began his seven-day seclusion, a period dedicated to seeking divine intervention for the nation’s well-being.

In a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, the Ooni acknowledged the widespread hardship Nigerians are currently facing, describing the situation as a test for the nation. As part of his traditional rites, the Ooni will spend a week in isolation, communicating with the ancestors and offering prayers for the country’s recovery.

“This is the most sacred period for me on the throne,” Oba Ogunwusi said before entering seclusion. “I use this time to connect with my ancestors and pray for the Yoruba race, Nigeria, and humanity at large. This year, I will focus on praying for relief from the current economic hardship.”

The monarch particularly addressed Nigerian youths, urging them to remain patient and refrain from actions that could destabilize the country. “I understand that this is a difficult time, but I believe that with patience and perseverance, better days will come.”

The Ooni also called on the Tinubu administration to intensify efforts to improve the lives of citizens, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all Nigerians.

The seclusion, which precedes the annual Olojo Festival, allows the monarch to retreat from daily distractions, focusing on deep spiritual reflection and cleansing. During this period, the Ooni engages in prayers and makes offerings, seeking peace, prosperity, and protection for the Yoruba people and the entire nation.

The Olojo Festival, marking its 9th edition under Oba Ogunwusi’s reign, will culminate on Saturday, September 28, with the Ooni donning the sacred Crown of Oduduwa, known as the ‘Ade Are,’ a symbolic gesture performed once a year to commemorate the beginning of mankind.
