Ongoing Killings in Plateau and Northern Nigeria Are About Exploiting Mineral Resources – Najatu Muhammad
In an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Najatu Muhammad described the ongoing violence in Plateau and Northern Nigeria as part of a larger effort to exploit the region’s abundant mineral resources. Muhammad argued that the persistent bloodshed was not simply a failure of security but a calculated scheme by powerful elites seeking to plunder the wealth of the land under the cover of chaos.
According to Muhammad, the violence in Northern Nigeria is being orchestrated to distract the public from the real agenda: the control and exploitation of valuable natural resources. She specifically referenced Plateau, where violent clashes have continued despite numerous government interventions, suggesting that the unrest in the state is symptomatic of a broader regional issue. “Anywhere you see this kind of carnage, make sure there is mining going on there,” she stated, pointing to the resource-rich areas as the true target of the violence.
Muhammad further emphasized that the current insecurity is part of a deliberate diversion, with the ultimate goal being resource control by a hidden elite cabal that uses the conflict as a smokescreen. She also shared alarming details from her visit to Borno, where she spoke with victims of Boko Haram violence, highlighting the extreme indoctrination of young recruits by the terrorist group.
In a related development, reports emerged from Plateau State about a deadly incident involving livestock. On Wednesday, at least 36 cows were killed and 42 others poisoned around the Tafi Gana junction in Bassa Local Government Area. The local chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Ya’u Idris, confirmed the event, stating that the cattle were poisoned through garden eggs laced with toxic substances. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. while the cattle were grazing, and it has since been reported to various security agencies, including the General Officer Commanding the 3 Division, DSD, and the police.
