Ondo State Government Clarifies Actual Cause of Governor Akeredolu’s Demise
Contrary to earlier speculations suggesting the cause of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s demise to be leukaemia, the Ondo State Government has clarified that the late governor passed away due to complications arising from a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
The 67-year-old second-term governor breathed his last on Wednesday while undergoing medical treatment in Germany, as confirmed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju. In an official statement, Ademola-Olateju expressed, “Mr. Governor peacefully departed from this world in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023.”
Highlighting the gravity of the loss, the statement continued, “This tragedy has left behind a profound void in our hearts. Governor Akeredolu answered the eternal call while receiving medical treatment in Germany. He succumbed to complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.”
The Ondo State Government has taken steps to formally inform President Bola Tinubu of Governor Akeredolu’s passing through an official letter. Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be released by the deceased’s family in conjunction with the state government. The entire state is now in mourning as they bid farewell to a leader who had served two consecutive terms.
