Old Video of President Bola Tinubu Leading Protest Against INEC Resurfaces
An old video showing Bola Tinubu leading a protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission has re-emerged online, adding a new layer to current political debates in Nigeria.
In the footage, Tinubu is seen criticising the electoral body, alleging corruption, election manipulation, and a failure to act in the public interest. The clip has resurfaced at a time of renewed scrutiny of INEC’s conduct and heightened political activity around its offices.
In Abuja, members of the African Democratic Congress, alongside other political actors, staged a demonstration at INEC’s headquarters. The protesters accused the commission of bias and demanded accountability in its recent decisions.
Among those present at the protest were Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, Dino Melaye, and Aisha Yesufu, among others.
The protest, tagged “Save Democracy,” featured participants in branded shirts and placards calling for sweeping reforms within the electoral commission, including demands linked to the leadership of INEC chairman Joash Amupitan.
Tensions have been further fuelled by INEC’s recent decision to withdraw recognition of a faction within the ADC led by David Mark, a move that has triggered criticism and deepened divisions within the party and across the political space.
