According to a statement by the returning officer, Dr. Achi Achi, Okwukwu was returned unopposed during the convention, which began on Thursday and will conclude on Friday. The election was characterized as a progressive movement within Igboland, with national delegates from across the region converging in Port Harcourt to participate.

In his acceptance speech, Okwukwu expressed gratitude to the delegates for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Igbo race during what he described as a critical time in their history. He pledged to uphold the constitution of Ohanaeze N’digbo and to protect the interests of Igbos globally. Among his priorities, he emphasized engaging the Federal Government to secure the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and other political prisoners. He also highlighted the importance of uniting the Igbo people, addressing longstanding grievances, and advocating for the restructuring of Nigeria.

He promised to advocate for the modernization and dredging of the Port Harcourt coastal ports and the Azumini to Opobo Imo River basin to drive industrialization in the region.
