Mr. Macaroni and other protesters arrested as Nigerians begin OccupyLekkiTollgate

Popular Comedian Debo Adebayo otherwise known as Mr Macaroni has been arrested by the Police at the Lekki toll gate.

He was in company of other protesters at the toll gate, before his arrest.

You would recall that the Justice Doris Okuwobi led Judicial panel set up by the Lagos State Government, to look into the events surrounding the October 20, 2020 events at the Lekki Tollgate, had voted in favour of reopening the tollgate for business.

However, some members of the panel including the youth representatives had vehemently disagreed with the decision.

Consequently, some young Nigerians, under the aegis of #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate, had vowed to embark on peaceful protests at the tollgate on Saturday February 13, 2021.

The comedian, Mr Macaroni had joined other protesters at the tollgate to express his dissatisfaction with the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry allowing the Lekki Concession Company to reopen the Lekki tollgate.

The Police, on identifying him had called on him and told him, “we don’t want you here”.

Mr Macaroni had gone Live on Instagram  before his phone and those of other arrested protesters were seized, to lament that “Lekki is under military rule.”

He said, “How did you think the reopening of tollgate is the next line of action? If you didn’t do that today, we won’t have a right to be here.

“It is a disrespect to say that you want to reopen at this tollgate. Are you spitting on the graves of the dead?

“Na military regime we dey?  We also have a right to be heard. We have a right to protest peacefully.”

The Lagos State Government, through its Attorney General and it’s Commissioner for information and strategy, in conjunction with the police had earlier warned youths who planned to protest at the Lekki tollgate to have a rethink and shelve the protests.

The Police have arrested no fewer than 30 persons at the Lekki Tollgate, some were seen locked up in an LCC “Black Maria” truck.
