NYSC Suspends August CDS, Biometric Clearance Over Planned Nationwide Protests
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a suspension of its monthly clearance and weekly Community Development Service (CDS) for corps members nationwide. This decision comes in response to the anticipated nationwide protests against economic hardship, set to commence on Thursday, August 1.
The suspension was communicated through a memo dispatched to State Coordinators, Local Government Inspectors, and Zonal Inspectors across Nigeria’s 36 states. The memo details that, in line with NYSC’s policy against involvement in protests, biometric clearance and CDS activities are halted until further notice. Corps members are instructed not to wear their uniforms this week and will be served in their civilian attire during this period.
The memo emphasizes the NYSC’s commitment to maintaining unity and order, underscoring the prohibition of any corps member’s participation in protests that could disrupt public peace. The resumption date for these activities will be announced at a later time.
