NSA Visits Plateau, Vows End to Killings as Death Toll Rises
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has assured residents of Plateau State that the Federal Government is fully committed to ending the wave of violence that has gripped the state. His comments came during a visit to the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven in Jos, following a series of deadly attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area.
More than 50 people were killed in a span of one week, and over 300 houses were destroyed in attacks that swept through five communities. The suspected herdsmen-led assaults have left hundreds of residents homeless and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Ribadu’s visit signals the government’s intent to respond more decisively to the crisis. “Enough is enough,” he declared, promising that the era of unchecked killings in Plateau was coming to an end.
The Plateau State Government has also begun outreach to affected communities. Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, visited the scenes of destruction to assess the situation and deliver relief materials to displaced residents.
In Manguna, the District Head called on authorities to deploy more security personnel to prevent further violence and curb the rising trend of rural-urban migration. Meanwhile, Yohanna Michael, president of the Hurti community, recounted how over 30 victims were buried in a mass grave. He added that the search for the missing continues as displaced families seek safety.
So far, more than 700 people have been forced from their homes, with calls mounting for urgent government intervention to allow farming communities to return and rebuild their lives.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) also weighed in, expressing deep concern over the spate of violence in the region. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the group urged the Federal Government to take swift action to halt the bloodshed. “The killing spree on the Plateau must be stopped immediately, and peace must return to the state,” the statement said.
