Northern Elders Forum Calls for Akpabio’s Resignation Over Alleged Misconduct
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has condemned the alleged mistreatment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling for his immediate resignation and an independent investigation into the matter.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NEF spokesperson Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere criticized what he described as public intimidation of the female senator. He stated that such actions are unacceptable, particularly at a time when gender sensitivity and inclusiveness are being championed globally.
NEF expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that the Senate must uphold values of fairness and justice. The group accused Akpabio of abusing his position, warning that his alleged actions could undermine the integrity of the legislative body and set a dangerous precedent.
The forum urged authorities to ensure a transparent investigation, insisting that Akpabio step aside to prevent any interference. NEF also stressed that the Senate, as Nigeria’s highest law-making institution, must maintain its credibility and safeguard the dignity of all its members.
