Nollywood Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe Hospitalised After On-Set Incident Involving Zubby Michael

Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has been hospitalised with internal bleeding after being accidentally kicked in the chest by fellow actor Zubby Michael during a film shoot.

According to a statement released by Nnadiekwe’s management on Saturday evening, the actor is currently receiving treatment and remains under medical supervision. The kick, which reportedly occurred during a scene that did not require physical contact, was described as unintended.

“We regret to inform you that Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening. He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding following an incident involving a kick on the chest during filming with his colleague Zubby Michael,” the statement read. “We appreciate your concern and well wishes for Godwin at this time. Keep Godwin in your thoughts.”

Nnadiekwe also took to Instagram a day earlier to share details of the incident, expressing frustration over the lack of safety protocols and medical assistance on set. He stated that the physical contact was neither scripted nor directed and called for more accountability in Nollywood productions.

“This isn’t to call anyone out, but it’s a serious reminder that we need to prioritise each other’s safety on set,” he wrote. “It’s caused me serious pains. Had to get medication for my chest to feel better today. I did all these by myself. No assistance!”

The actor stressed the need for structured insurance policies, readily available first aid, and strict adherence to directorial instructions during filming. “When we’re working without insurance policies or readily available first aid, unexpected physical actions like this, even if accidental, can have real consequences,” he said, adding that all physical scenes should be rehearsed and supervised to prevent life-threatening outcomes.

The incident has sparked widespread concern on social media, with fans, fellow actors, and industry stakeholders calling for stronger safety regulations and protection measures for actors. As of now, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has yet to issue an official statement.
