“No Time for Distraction”: MC Oluomo Resumes Office Despite Court Sack
Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has resumed duties as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President, defying a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which nullified his presidency. This marks his first public return to office since the court’s decision.
MC Oluomo’s election as NURTW President, held unopposed at the union’s zonal secretariat in Osogbo, was previously reported. However, a three-member appellate court panel comprising Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi overturned his leadership, reaffirming Ibikunle Baruwa as the rightful president. The court also upheld an earlier National Industrial Court judgment from March 11 and awarded N100,000 in costs against MC Oluomo.
Following the ruling, prominent figures, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana, demanded the reinstatement of Mr. Baruwa. Falana urged the federal government, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to act immediately. Despite these calls, no official statement has been issued confirming Mr. Baruwa’s reinstatement.
Amid the controversy, MC Oluomo took to Instagram on Tuesday to declare his return to work. He expressed determination to focus on his role and avoid distractions, emphasizing a commitment to tackling challenges and achieving his goals. In his words:
“It’s time for no distraction. Refocused, recharged, ready to rock! I’m back to work, primed to tackle all challenges head-on, crush my goals with precision and passion. Opportunities, obstacles, successes—I’m ready! Today’s mindset: focused, driven, and unstoppable. Watch me soar.”
While MC Oluomo has been vocal online, his rival Mr. Baruwa has remained largely silent. Baruwa, initially elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, has not signaled any move to resume office, maintaining minimal online presence.
