“No One is Bigger Than the Party” – APGA National Chairman Confirms Soludo, Others to be Suspended for Anti-Party Activities
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced plans to suspend the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, alongside other members for alleged anti-party activities. This was disclosed by the party’s National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, during a press briefing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
Njoku accused Soludo of repeatedly undermining efforts by the Supreme Court-recognized NWC to restore peace within the party. He further stated that the governor’s continued engagement in anti-party activities has forced the party to take disciplinary action.
The NWC, according to Njoku, will officially announce the suspension of several members, including Governor Soludo, on Thursday, September 26, 2024. “We have agreed on suspending key figures, including the governor, for their involvement in actions that undermine the party’s unity,” he said.
As Anambra prepares for its off-cycle governorship election, Njoku clarified that the party does not yet have a sole candidate for the election, raising doubts about Soludo’s chances of securing the party’s nomination. He emphasized that anyone aspiring to contest must go through the party’s standard nomination process.
In his remarks, Njoku referred to recent legal battles, including a case in the Court of Appeal and a suit filed in Awka, which aimed to challenge his leadership. He criticized the governor for attempting to manipulate the political system by influencing the state’s House of Assembly to pass laws that hinder APGA from fielding candidates.
Njoku expressed frustration with the governor’s conduct, noting that the NWC had been advocating for peace within the party. However, the escalating tension has forced the leadership to take decisive action. “No one is bigger than the party, not even the governor,” Njoku stressed, reiterating that the NWC would not tolerate continued disloyalty.
The party chairman concluded by affirming that APGA remains committed to its values and would not hesitate to discipline members who violate its principles, even if it means suspending its highest-ranking officials.
